Rubens Goncalves Barrichello born on May 23rd, 1972 in Sao Paulo is a brilliant Brazilian Formula One racer. For a brief while he basked in the glory of Michael Schumacher's five consecutive wins - 2000-2004 as his team mate at Ferrari. After Schumacher retired, Barrichello came on his own as the most experienced driver on the grid.
Barrichello showed immense promise in his growing years displaying all the racing stuff in him blended with lots of confidence and hope. He won five karting titles in Brazil and then left for Europe to showcase his racing abilities. He made his entry in 1990 Formula Lotus series and won the championship in style. He repeated his winning performance in British Formula 3 Championship the following year too. He beat David Coulthard, the British racer in that series.
His quick successes landed him an F1 racing seat at the age of 19, which he declined and instead joined Formula 3000. However two years later he joined Formula One in 1993 and raced for the Jordan-Hart team. He scored two points in his first 1993 season and finished 18th in the Driver's Championship positions.
The 1994 F1 series was riddled with accidents and crashes. Apart from two deaths in Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger, there were several racers who injured themselves in violent crashes that nearly killed them. Even Rubens Barrichello, during practice session was seriously injured in a horrible crash that knocked him down unconscious. Further the death of his Idol Senna and his fellow-racer Ratzenberger's death depressed him more than his own suffering.
Yet, taking everything in his stride, brave Barrichello bounced back into the season and finished at an incredible 6th position in Driver's Championship that season. In subsequent years from 1995 to 2000, though Barrichello's racing career saw ups and downs, he never lost his touch and his spirit to win a race was still intact.
In 2000, Barrichello racing in his 123rd race has achieved his first race victory at Hockenheim. Finding his winning touch after 122 races, Barrichello displayed his amazing racing skills in 2002 and finished 2nd in Driver's Championship behind World Champion Schumacher. He repeated his winning performance in 2004 too securing 114 points and 14 podiums and finishing 2nd in Driver's Championship behind his teammate Michael Schumacher.
Barrichello feeling restlessness in Schumacher's company has decided to leave Ferrari to join Honda. In 2006 F1 season racing for Honda-Hart team Rubens Barrichello finished 7th in Driver's Championship position. For the current 2007 F1 season Barrichello is still hopeful of winning the Driver's Championship. So to win he is pitching all his racing skills
